move

Move or rename a file.

Syntax

UPPERCASE words are placeholders to replace. Brackets in the syntax line describe optional arguments; do not type those brackets literally.

move [/-y] SOURCE DESTINATION

Example

move /-y note-copy.txt renamed-note.txt

Expected result

Moves the file, with an overwrite prompt where applicable.

Notes and traps

Prompt behavior can differ in batch contexts; always inspect the intended target.
