How these guides grow

Weekly updates are scheduled for Monday mornings, rotating across Systems, languages, linguistics, photography, and music. They add the next prerequisite-ready lesson and revise material when the underlying technology changes. Each update records what changed and the sources used. Examples state their environment; a command verified in one system is not presented as tested everywhere.

15 September 2026 · Networking, Indigenous languages and the place atlas

Networking now has 33 lessons: 26 new units extend the foundation through IPv6, routing, OSPF, services, security, wireless, automation, troubleshooting and engineering practice, with a CCNA v1.1 objective map. Each new unit includes an explanation, worked example, exercise, answer, common mistakes and references. The Indigenous languages of the Americas guide adds eleven study units and eighteen family reference entries.

The Linguistics menu now shares all 47 language tracks with the practice page, including Finnish and Navajo. False Friends uses compact expandable rows and initially shows six entries.

The Radio / News place atlas is a first published pilot: global place and radio catalogs, shared selection and player, original-language summaries, English/Japanese dictionary lookup and reversible owner corrections. Global news coverage, comprehensive health classification, resident review and contextual language analysis remain in development. Live coverage and collection limits identify the available sources and gaps.

Disposable checks cover the JSON example, VLSM arithmetic, ACL predictions, additive SQL schema, atlas locality/staleness rejection, claim references, dictionary data and CJK/Thai/RTL segmentation. IOS/Packet Tracer, RF equipment, native-speaker review and physical iPhone audio remain untested. Built-Worker integration checks passed for global/pilot search, station streams, Japanese stories, thin coverage, reversible station suppression and unauthenticated mutation denial. Browser preview verified the atlas shell and mode control; full interaction testing was limited by a stalled preview connection.

15 September 2026 · Language foundations and character studio

The language page now has 47 tracks, including all requested languages, separate Hindi/Urdu, ancient/modern Greek and Biblical/Modern Hebrew, with Romanian preserved. Twenty-four new foundation units include a rule, model, exercise, answer, introductory vocabulary and usage notes. Variant guides cover Mandarin writing standards, Arabic, Hindustani, Greek, Latin, Hebrew, Persian, Norwegian, Yupik and Coptic.

The Kanji + Hanzi studio publishes ten lessons, all 214 Kangxi headings, all 2,136 Jōyō kanji with stroke models, 6,432 Japanese and 9,574 Chinese stroke models, and a 103,007-entry reference. Twenty-four authored mnemonic stories and device-local personal notes support recall. Six new script recognition charts explicitly separate letter identification from pronunciation instruction.

Coverage, schema, source licenses, character/stroke integrity and the site build were checked. There was no iPhone interaction test or native-speaker audit of the new foundations. Full courses, comprehensive word lessons, every regional stroke alternative and an authored mnemonic for every character remain planned. Sources and licenses appear beside the lessons and studio. The scheduled rotation and unrelated catalog requests remain unchanged.

14 September 2026 · Nineteen starter lessons and fifteen reference entries

The eight planned Light projects and eight planned Sound projects now open to real starter lessons. Each includes prerequisites, an explanation, a worked example, an exercise with a reasoned answer, common mistakes and references. Interactive tools and personal media collections remain planned.

Earth now has three reference entries each in Dead Air, Same Time, Elsewhere, Local Internet, Reblog Chain and Time Signals. They identify their primary sources and distinguish archival records and model predictions from personal observations. No travel records or recordings were invented.

Sources reviewed: NIST, NICT, CERN, NASA, Google, transport authorities, Nikon, OpenStax, NDSA, Audacity, Ableton, the IPA and MIT. Exact links appear with each entry or lesson. Checks cover exercise arithmetic, route structure and once-only database insertion in disposable SQLite, including preservation of hidden or deleted entries. Camera capture, listening tests and device workflows remain untested. The next scheduled learning lanes are unchanged.

14 September 2026 · Language, corpus, photography and music

Nine new lessons across three subject courses, plus three German grammar chapters, three sentence-practice units and four German false friends. These foundations are published; advanced course stages and corpus hosting remain planned.

Sources reviewed 14 September: UT Austin Grimm Grammar, Duden, Lancaster's historical corpus survey, Python documentation, AntConc 4.4.2's manual dated 20 July 2026, Nikon education and Ableton Learning Music. The corpus lessons keep synthetic data explicit and introduce reproducibility before inference. AntConc remains a separate desktop tool, not an AUWEN feature.

Validation: exact Python worked programs and the exercise variant passed in disposable files on Python 3.12.14, including context boundaries and empty-denominator behavior. Exposure, time, scale and triad answers checked arithmetically. Grammar forms reviewed against the cited UT paradigms; structural checks are not a native-speaker audit. No camera capture, audio listening test or AntConc installation was performed.

Next lanes: Windows Server/Active Directory, RHEL/virtualization and database operations. Next visits to these subjects will advance another language, corpus normalization and annotation, optics/composition, and musical intervals/harmony.

14 September 2026 · Twelve more practical lessons

Published three additional lessons each for networking, Linux administration, Docker and Kubernetes, plus eight command-reference entries. The Systems collection now contains 74 lessons across 17 guides and 53 shell-reference entries. Every new lesson has prerequisites, explanations, examples, expected results, exercises, answers, failure cases and primary references.

  • Networking lessons 5–7: VLANs and trunks, spanning-tree election/failover, and LACP EtherChannel with controlled failure drills.
  • Linux lessons 6–8: users/groups and session credentials, narrow sudo policy, and Ubuntu apt versus RHEL dnf transactions.
  • Docker lessons 5–7: readiness checks, graceful/forced shutdown, CPU/memory/PID limits and explicit writable paths.
  • Kubernetes lessons 5–7: complete manifests, startup/readiness/liveness probes, resource requests and recovery from a stalled rollout.
  • Command desk: Get-Service, Test-NetConnection, Get-NetTCPConnection, ps, ss, du, netstat and sc.exe query, with practice questions and cross-shell task links.

Verified in disposable fixtures: sudoers syntax and rejection of malformed policy; file modes; GNU du; Python HTTP-handler responses and TERM/KILL/ignored-TERM behavior. YAML selectors, named ports, probe handlers and resource arithmetic were checked, and networking predictions were checked in a limited logical model. Existing Python, Perl and SQL example checks passed again.

Limits: no Docker Engine, Kubernetes cluster, Packet Tracer, Windows or complete VM administration environment was available. Container enforcement, switch behavior, admission/scheduling, installed sudo permissions and package transactions remain documentation-reviewed lab procedures. Local ss returned partial output because netlink access was restricted; ps could not initialize process lookup. Neither is claimed fully execution-tested. Each guide records its specific limits and target environment.

Sources were reviewed on 14 September 2026 against Cisco’s Catalyst IOS manuals, Ubuntu 24.04 and RHEL 9 administration references, Sudo, Docker, Kubernetes, Python and Microsoft documentation, linked within the lessons. Target-specific behavior is distinguished from general principles. Advanced stages and capstones remain planned; these labs alone do not establish CCNA readiness.

Next in the rotation: language practice and grammar, False Friends/linguistics, and photography; then music and the remaining operations lanes.

14 September 2026 · From examples to checked behavior

Three new published units bring the Systems collection to 62 lessons across 17 guides. Each adds prerequisites, a complete worked example, predicted results, exercises with reasoned answers, common mistakes, and linked primary references.

  • Python: validated command-line input — argparse, help and exit status, nonnegative integer contracts, and a one-time transport-charge exercise.
  • Perl: subroutines and Test::More — argument copying, whitespace cleanup, boundary and rejection tests, plus deliberately broken implementations to check the tests.
  • SQL: joins and row counts — a disposable notebook/entry fixture, inner versus left joins, unmatched records, correct counting, and ON-versus-WHERE counterexamples.

Executed on Linux: Python 3.12.14; Perl 5.38.2 with Test::More 1.302194; SQLite 3.53.1 through Python, using temporary files and an in-memory database. The check suite passed 91 harness checks, including the published exercise solutions; its SQLite check also verifies four worked queries, three answer queries and two incorrect-query counterexamples. This does not claim testing on Windows, Python 3.14, Perl 5.44, or the other ten SQL engines.

Upstream review, 14 September: Python 3.14 argparse adds color and suggestion controls; our example does not depend on those new settings. Current Perl subroutine documentation includes experimental named-parameter signatures; this lesson uses established argument unpacking. Join semantics were reviewed against PostgreSQL and SQLite.

The CCNA transition was rechecked against Cisco’s 1 July 2026 announcement: v1.1 testing ends 2 February 2027 and v2.0 begins 3 February 2027. The guide’s existing baseline remains applicable; no exam-readiness claim is implied.

Advanced topics and capstones remain planned until lessons actually exist.

Ten new foundation guides: Windows Server and Active Directory, RHEL, Hyper-V and VMware, Oracle with SQL*Plus and RMAN, SQL Server administration, WildFly/JBoss, Splunk, network services, recovery/data operations, and Office tools for operations. Each includes three lessons, exercises, answers, and a path toward advanced practice.

13 September 2026 · Foundations

At that release, the next planned units were Python input validation and CLI arguments; Perl subroutines and tests; SQL joins; VLANs and trunks; Docker health checks; Kubernetes manifests and probes; Linux accounts and package management.
