Shutter Count
Inspect an original camera file. A missing or unsupported count stays unknown.
WORKSPACECheck what a file can prove. Some cameras write a shutter or actuation counter into maker notes. Others do not, and an ordinary image number is not automatically that counter.
How to use this
- Use an untouched file
Choose an original file from the camera. A downloaded social image or edited export is less likely to retain maker notes.
- Read the field and model
Look at the reported source tag, camera identification and interpretation, not only the number.
- Keep uncertainty
If no supported counter survives, the result should say so. Try another original from the same body rather than estimating from the filename.
Try this: Inspect two consecutive originals if you have them. Compare the source tag and its value; do not assume electronic and mechanical exposures share one counter.
You should get: Either a supported counter with a stated interpretation or an explicit cannot-determine result.
Know the limit: This does not predict remaining camera life or certify a seller’s claim. Model support and retained metadata limit the result.
