Image Autopsy
Open a photograph locally and inspect the evidence recorded inside the file.
WORKSPACERead the evidence in a photograph. Image Autopsy reads metadata embedded in a local image. Metadata can explain capture settings; it cannot reconstruct every decision made by the photographer.
How to use this
- Choose the original
Use a camera file where possible. Messaging apps, screenshots and exports often strip metadata.
- Inspect a connected set
Read shutter speed, aperture and ISO together; then look at lens, orientation and any location fields.
- Compare a second file
Try an edited export of the same photograph. Missing fields show what the export retained, not proof that the original camera lacked them.
Try this: Compare an original photograph with a screenshot of it. Look for camera model and exposure settings in each.
You should get: The original may contain a capture record; the screenshot often describes the screenshot or contains no original exposure data.
Know the limit: Editable metadata is evidence, not proof of authenticity. No location field does not prove where a photograph was or was not taken.
