Bentnamen

A bentnaam was an initiation nickname. A body, a habit, a home country, a craft, or a joke could supply the material. The quiz assigns a name from a closed set; it makes no claim to diagnose your personality.

Names in the ceremony

Historical labels follow the supplied research bank. Attribution caveats stay attached to each result. The two newly coined names are modern additions.

Bamboccio — Ugly doll / puppet / rag doll / large child (sources vary)Historical

Pieter van Laer (bapt. Haarlem 1599 – d. after ~1642) bore Il Bamboccio in Rome (~1625–1639). The nickname named the Bamboccianti — painters of Roman street and campagna genre. Spellings wander (Bamboccio / Bambotio / Bambots); the fact of the bodily joke does not.

Bamboccio gloss keeps the full range: ugly doll / puppet / rag doll / large child — sources vary in translation.

Snuffelaar spellings and bearer attribution vary across Houbraken, Hoogewerff, and Wiki tables; Pack 1 ties the alternate to van Laer.
